Case Study: Lovers Stores
Social Media & Community Manager
Sexual Health & Wellness | 4 Year Engagement
Focus Areas: Organic Social • Community • Influencer Marketing • Affiliate Marketing
Channels: Instagram • TikTok • Facebook • YouTube • X
Team: Copywriter, Graphic Designer, Brand Manager
Goal: Build engagement, trust, and cultural relevance in a category where most brands are actively suppressed or constrained by platforms.
Summary
When I joined Lovers, the brand had a strong retail heritage, but its digital presence hadn’t caught up yet: it had around 20K followers and no real content system in place. On top of that, it was operating in one of the most heavily restricted categories on social, which made visibility more challenging.
Leadership wanted to position Lovers as a thought leader in sexual wellness, alongside both emerging and established category leaders. To get there, I focused on building a community-first content approach rooted in storytelling, education, and cultural relevance. I put systems in place to make content production scalable, expanded creator and influencer partnerships, and led cross-functional efforts to keep everything aligned. Over time, this shifted Lovers from a relatively quiet digital presence into a much more engaged, trust-driven community. Under my management, the brand’s Instagram grew to 88K followers and consistently outperformed industry engagement benchmarks.
The Challenge
-
Limited digital-first presence and content infrastructure
-
Small in-house team and constrained marketing budget
-
Need to modernize brand perception while honoring a 40-year retail legacy
-
Lack of a defined content strategy and scalable content systems
-
Strict platform restrictions and content suppression limiting reach, discoverability, and distribution
-
Need to balance education, compliance, and engagement within a highly regulated category
-
Limited ability to rely on traditional paid amplification strategies

The Objectives
Build Community Through Storytelling
I produced narrative-driven content that encouraged conversation, relatability, and emotional engagement.
Establish Audience Trust
I positioned the brand as an educational resource in sexual wellness, emphasizing clarity, inclusivity, and accessibility across our content.
Build Scalable Content Systems
I developed structured workflows, campaign frameworks, and internal training programs to enable consistent, high-output work.
Expand Cultural Reach Through Creators and Partnerships
I leveraged influencers, affiliates, and brand partnerships to extend reach, build credibility, and navigate platform limitations.
The Execution
In a category like sexual wellness, many of the most common growth tactics are either ineffective or inaccessible. Paid amplification options are limited, and earning audience trust requires more than visibility alone.
Rather than positioning social media as a promotional or acquisition channel, I repositioned it as a platform for education, storytelling, and community participation. Lovers became a source of information, support, and ongoing conversation rather than simply a destination for products and promotions. This shift strengthened audience relationships, improved engagement quality, and established a more durable brand presence within a highly constrained environment.
Perhaps most importantly, it demonstrated that sustainable growth in regulated and restricted categories requires a fundamentally different approach to marketing. Success is not determined by how often a brand appears in a feed, but by its ability to consistently provide value, earn trust, and create content that audiences feel comfortable engaging with, sharing, and returning to over time.

Before & After
Instead of treating content as a distribution funnel for product assets, I built a social ecosystem around education, cultural storytelling, and creator collaboration. This approach repositioned social media from a customer acquisition tool to a space for fostering community relevance and cultivating long-term audience trust.
To support this shift, new content systems were introduced that emphasized narrative depth, repeatable formats, and community-informed creative. These systems replaced ad hoc publishing with a more structured approach to audience engagement, ensuring consistency in tone, value, and cultural alignment across channels. The result was a more resilient content engine that extended beyond individual campaigns or platform trends.
